Plant Common sage is the fried leaves of Salvia officinalis belong to Lamiaceae family.
An average bush up to 60 cm tall, simple leaves with petioles, rectangular and round edge, calyx length 10-14 mm, flower tube length up to 35 mm, flowers purple-blue or pink to white which are formed in the flower cup.
It is comprised of Borneol, Cineol, essential oil, flavonoids, triterpenes, cafeic acid (Rosmarinic acid named as the most important).
It is native to West Europe and usually grow in most part of Europe and North America.
It mainly grows in Tehran, Mazandaran and Gilan.
The aerial parts are used as medicinal organs.
Due to dry farming of common sage, it is better advised to cultivate the seeds in an outdoor bed at first and then transplant to the main field.
They are first cultivated in outdoor beds in spring and transplant in autumn.
It can be harvested one year after cultivation.
Three periods of harvesting are available in a year; first harvest is pre flowering early June.
Second harvest is in August and third time is in October. The best harvesting time for common salvia is noon.
Add a portion of leaves to boiling water and drink after purification.
