Physical characteristics
- It is a woody, short, full-stemmed plant with condensed grey hairs covered with soft, broad, long hairs at the tip. The flowering stems are erect or ascending. - The leaves are oblong-lanceolate or linear-lanceolate. The petiole is short with a narrow tip that is relatively acute or sharp and has 7 or more parallel veins sunken into the upper surface. The leaves next to the flowers are shorter and broader.
- The flower pappus is 14 to 18 mm long, with almost spreading, drooping awl-shaped teeth that are 4 – 5 times longer than the pinnate tube. The calyx is purple-red, rarely white, and yellowish with a purplish color. The upper lobe is shorter than the lower one, which is circular-rectangular. The lower lope has a circular central lobe with a fluffy edge.
